Break Down (10 Minutes)
- Split into groups of three to seven people, depending
on size of group.
- Come up with ten goals that are to be accomplished in
a specific time frame (six months, one year, etc.) per
group. You may want to think about every area of operations
and use that, ie. Recruitment, philanthropy, social service,
academics, etc. You may also want to use your statistics
from the Chapter Portfolio; you should have received this
at Congress, as a measuring stick of where to begin.
- Each group list goals on paper (in no particular order).
Share Goals (5 minutes)
- Read goals from each group out loud and slow enough for
other groups to comprehend.
Prioritize Goals (10 minutes)
- Groups list top three goals after hearing and borrowing
ideas from other groups.
- This list should be in priority order.
Merge Goals (5 minutes)
- List top three goals from each group on one flip chart.
- Discern top five to ten goals with the entire group.
NOTES:
- Goals are specific and measurable. Be sure to distinguish
the goal from the objective. We have attached an Action
Planning Guide as well to help your members through the
goal setting process. The Action
Planning Guide helps set some specific measurable timetables
for marking your progress and breaking down a larger goal
into smaller steps.
- Objectives are ways to achieve the goals as they will
form your plan. Use the same process to obtain the objectives
to the goals. Make sure your objectives answer "who,
what, when, where and how" so your goal will be accomplished.
Without objectives, your goals will not be reached.
- Bi-weekly checks on your group's progress are crucial.
Group members must see progress in order to maintain their
commitment to the goals.
