Confessions of a Recruiting Director with Resume Writing

Imagine the head engineer at Lexus fixing your car whenever it breaks down. Imagine your college professor helping you write the essay questions for your final exam. That's what "Confessions of a Recruiting Director" is for students looking to land their first job — the ultimate insider's guide to navigate one of the most difficult transitions in life.

"Confessions of a Recruiting Director" is an "exposé" that dispels the myths and uncovers the truths behind getting that first job. Brad Karsh, President of JobBound will travel to your chapter to give an engaging 45-minute presentation covering the inside scoop on getting a job. He then spends a full day working with ATO members in 30-minute one-on-one sessions to revamp resumes or write them from scratch. It's a powerful service that will dramatically improve your resume and job search skills.

Fellow ATOs who have worked with JobBound, have nothing but great things to say:

"Everybody who sat through Brad's sessions was blown away. They couldn't believe how much better their resumes were. I can honestly say he played a big part in me getting my job after graduation."

— Mike Ronkoske, University of Illinois, '03

Business Etiquette 101

Working in the real world for the first time is one of the most difficult transitions in life. And, it's not the hard skills that make it tough, but rather the soft ones.

This presentation is an interactive romp through the do's and don'ts of etiquette. Importantly, this is not about whether to hold your pinkie out when sipping high tea, but rather a look at business issues — like how to act, dress, and excel, on the phone, in your cube, at a meeting, and at a business meal.

We watch a video where our hero, Paul, bumbles his way through a host of embarrassing situations in a "typical" day. While some of his gaffes are obvious — he shows up late to a meeting, he takes his vegetarian client to a steak house — others are much more subtle.

Is it okay to Instant Messenger a friend? Can you make personal calls from work? Who gets up when an extra chair is needed for a meeting? What is appropriate to say in front of a client, and what is not?

Students are asked to identify the mistakes he makes, and learn first hand, from a former Human Resources VP, the tricks of the trade to succeed in the business world.

The audience then has an opportunity to have their business etiquette questions answered. There are always scores of questions and lots of learning in "Business Etiquette 101."

Where are the Jobs? — Finding Work in Today's Economy

It's estimated that less than 2% of jobs are found over the internet, while 64% are found through networking. Yet where do students spend the bulk of their job search? Online!

Even though the stock market is on the rise, it's been a largely "jobless" recovery. Gone are the glory days of the late 90's, when it seemed like employers were lining up to hire recent grads at enormous salaries.

Networking is quite simply the best way to land work, yet students seem to avoid it like the plague. "Where are the Jobs?" is a step-by-step plan to get students into the jobs they want.

From who to target, to how to approach them, to conducting yourself on an informational interview, and to following up, students leave this presentation with an incredibly specific plan of attack on networking.

This engaging presentation is based on real world recruiting strategies and gives advice straight from the recruiting department.

Ask any corporate recruiter and they'll tell you two things: networking is the best way to land a job, and students don't do nearly enough of it.

"Where are the Jobs?" is perfect for students going into any field. If you're serious about getting a job, this is the presentation for you.

The Greek Guide to Getting a Job

One of the great benefits of fraternity and sorority membership is the leadership and opportunities provided. You know how it helped you, but when it comes time to get a job, you need to make sure your future employer understands the skills you acquired.

Perceptions of the Greek experience vary dramatically in the real world. Some employers value your skills, while others consider the experience negatively. How you describe your background on a resume and in an interview can have a substantial influence on how you are judged.

"The Greek Guide" walks through specific examples of the mistakes students make when describing their fraternity/sorority experiences. You'll then learn first hand exactly what to say on the resume to make it stand out, and how to walk that delicate balance in an interview between accomplished Greek leader, and stereotypical frat boy/sorority girl.

Next, learn specific techniques on networking with other Greeks. As you know, being a Greek is about a lifelong commitment, and now's your chance to tap into that network. You'll learn how to contact your fraternity/sorority alums and what to say to have them help you with the job search.

"The Greek Guide to Getting a Job" is perfect for any Greek looking to get that first job or internship.
