The Alpha Tau Omega expansion process consists of the following
phases:
Interest Group Criteria
Members of the Interest Group must be full-time students
in good standing with your respective college or university.
Members of the Interest Group may not be a member of another North-American
Interfraternity Conference recognized fraternity.
This phase typically lasts two weeks to one month.
Colony Criteria
To become a Colony an Interest Group must:
- Recruit a minimum of 20 members with at least a 2.5
GPA or greater.
- Each member must submit a Colony Petition.
- Each member must pay a one-time $25 colony fee to the
National Headquarters.
- The Interest Group as a whole must participate in a
one-day Colony Retreat to be facilitated by the Director
of Expansion.
- Become recognized by the college or university Interfraternity
Council as an ATO Colony.
Chapter Criteria
To become a Chapter the Colony must:
- Recruit a minimum of 45 members with at least a 2.5
GPA or greater.
- The Colony as a whole should be above the campus all-men's
average.
- Implement Chapter programming and operations based
on our expansion model.
- Complete at least five documented social service events
each semester.
- Construct a documented and approved recruitment and
membership education program.
- Complete Charter Petition with full documentation.
- Have an established and functioning Board of Trustees.
Timeline
During each of these phases, the expansion group must
fulfill specific criteria. ATO's experience indicates that
the average time of the entire expansion process is roughly
9-18 months. However, this depends solely upon the progress
of the individual group. ATO is more interested in the
accomplishments the group has made as a whole rather than
the pace of the expansion process.
Are you interested in starting a new chapter of ATO, or
do you have questions about ATO Expansion or Redevelopment?

Interest Form.
