The Signature Event Committee, led by Brother Richard “RJ”
Chess proposed a new idea to the Executive Board. In the past our Signature
Events revolved around a dance called Arete; although the dance has managed to
bring in a decent amount of money, it has almost no room to grow. Brother Chess
knew he had to design a Signature Event that can be passed down to future ATOs.
The committee brain stormed for weeks until finally Parker Tomasi produced the
idea of a Push Cart Derby. The derby will include many side events such as a
cook off, trophy girl competition, and of course the actual race.
On Monday members of the Exec board listened to the proposed
event, and are very enthusiastic. During the meeting, President Matthew Liguori
said, “This is the Signature Event our chapter has been searching for.” Parker Tomasi
believes the Push Cart Derby has the potential to strengthen brotherhood, promote
our fraternity, and improve recruitment.
Members are currently in the process of planning. Brothers
Chess and Parker feel they can have the Derby in full swing within the
semester.
