If you've visited atoroadshow.org lately, you've noticed big changes. ATO Roadshow is a whole new game. Features Stories and videos will cover more than just Signature Events. Now based off of the Four Fs, Roadshow offers you the opportunity to check out chapters that excel in other areas of chapter operations such as Alumni Relations and Recruitment among others.
The Four Fs are as follows: Focus, Fundamentals, Finance and Friendship. Each represents a single category and is color-coded as well as icon-driven: Red (Focus = Magnifying Glass), Blue (Fundamentals = Scales), Green (Finance = Dollar Sign) and Orange (Friendship = Clasped Hands). Within each category, there are subcategories taken from the original Roadshow site:
- Focus = Campus Involvement, Community Service, Leadership, Personal Achievement and Roadshow Events (aka Signature Events).
- Fundamentals = Academics, Public Relations and Ritual & Spiritual.
- Finances = Chapter Administration and Recruitment.
- Friendship = Alumni Relations, Brotherhood and Intramurals.
Now that you understand the categories and their respective subcategories, take a look at the posts themselves. The Roadshow Feature Story is located to the left. To launch the Feature video and story, simply click on the freeze frame or the read more link. After viewing the Feature, you can return to the main page by clicking the close button at the bottom left of the video box or you can visit another Feature Story via the boxes below. If you want to go directly to the Feature Archive, click on the Feature Stories link at the top of the page. This will show you a listing of all Features past and present in their respective categories. Click one to view a preview to the left and click the read more link to view the full story and see the video.
Back on the main page, you'll notice a Top Ten section accompanied by the five most recent user-submitted posts. The Top Ten is determined by the total points that each chapter has accumulated. To get points, you need Facebook Likes. Points are no longer awarded for merely posting on Roadshow. The new system operates exclusively through Facebook Likes, which puts a new emphasis on what you are posting. You aren't trying to impress just the Roadshow Crew anymore. Now you need to impress Tau Nation with your posts.
To post, you need to first be logged in on the site via the ATO eWeb. The login button is at the top-right corner of the page. To login, simply enter your e-web email address and password associated with your ATO account. If you don't know this information, email Gretchen Stephens, Member Records Specialist, at
gstephens@ato.org to find out. After you've logged in, if you visit a post and Like it while you're simultaneously logged in via Facebook, the site will recognize that and associate your Facebook ID with your e-web login. This will allow you to login with Facebook from this point forward, but please note that you cannot be logged in on Facebook to use Roadshow's Facebook login feature. Once logged in, you may post content.
You can reach the Let Us Know section by following the link at the top of the page or clicking the handy Post It at the bottom-right. Once on the page, you'll be notified that you need to login to post (if you aren't logged in already). Login, and you'll notice that five of the six fields have already been populated with your name, email, school, chapter and member status. The first thing you need to do is choose your category by clicking the corresponding icon to the left of the entry box. Next, select your subcategory from the remaining drop down box. An entry will appear in the empty space. Click the Edit button to create your post.
You'll be asked to include a Title - think News headlines. When it comes to the post, give the full rundown of who, what, where, when, why, how and to what extent. Avoid posting a single sentence, and please refrain from posting things that haven't yet occurred. Remember that you're trying to convince others to Like this post. Save your post and close the window, then you can add photos and/or video. If you have any other posts you want to make, go ahead and set them up. Posts are made and queued in the Entries Box until you click the Submit button at the bottom.
After you've posted, click the RoadRace link at the top to view your submissions. On the RoadRace page, you'll see an archive of all posts that have been made thus far. You can view posts from all categories at once, or you can filter the posts by category by clicking the corresponding category title at the top (this feature is also enabled on the Roadshow home page). If you are looking for posts from a specific category, school or date, then check out the Search Posts function at the bottom-left of the RoadRace page. When you find a post that interests you, click the title to preview the post in the left pane and click the read more link to see the entire post with photos and video. Posts that have photos and/or video will have an icon representing the respective media item.
The full post view is also where you Like a post. This requires that you be logged into the Roadshow site via Facebook or that you already be logged into Facebook in your browser. Each like represents one "vote" or point. At the end of the RoadRace (July 1, 2011), the chapter with the most Likes will be the RoadRace Champion. Anyone with a Facebook account can Like a post, so this is where your family and friends can join in the fun.
Remember to take time to view posts made by other chapters and support their efforts. Remember that as ATOs we should recognize true merit wherever found. It isn't about winning a competition, it is about acknowledging and encouraging one another to spur excellence in all areas of chapter operations.
Another helpful tool that is still under development is the LC Corner. There are two ways to access the new LC Corner - by following the link at the top of the page or by hovering over the bottom-left corner of the main page and clicking the read more link. Soon, you will start to see blog-type posts from our Leadership Consultants from the road. The posts will be highlighting chapters that are excelling in an area of chapter operations.
Other features of the new Roadshow site include the media feed at the far-right of the homepage. This feed features ATO News via
ato.org and links to our
Facebook Fanpage and
Twitter account. Every post that you make on atoroadshow.org will automatically be converted into a tweet and sent out via the AlphaTauOmegaHQ Twitter account. If you're on Twitter, follow us and the
#ATORoadshow hashtag to track posts and get the word out whenever you see your posts auto-tweeted.
With the special integrated features from Facebook, it would be a shame if ATO Roadshow didn't have its own presence on Facebook. Just visit
apps.facebook.com/atoroadshow/ and you'll be able to view and search posts as well as visit other links to the ATO Roadshow website.
