Colony to Chapter: Theta Alpha

On Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011, the Alpha Tau Omega National Fraternity re-chartered the Theta Alpha chapter at Ball State University.

After 15 months of recruiting and re-establishing ATO at the Ball State campus in Muncie, Ind., 41 men were initiated into America's Leadership Development Fraternity.

"After today, it was so evident that I'm an ATO for life," said chapter president Matt Schafer, Ball State '11. "There's nothing that is going to pass that up ... Best day of my life."

After a nine-year absence from campus, the alumni presence was strong at the event. Following the ceremony, the restored chapter joined more than 50 alumni and guests at a reception and banquet to honor the occasion.

The alumni presence left a strong impression on the undergraduates.

"Every bit of it was extremely exciting and I found myself getting really emotional," said Keegan Jiles, Ball State '11. "I really enjoyed seeing all the alumni and hearing them.”

"I can entrust myself in something that's ATO and know that I'm going to get only good from it," said Chad Huffman, Ball State '11. "It makes me that much more confident in myself and I love ATO for that."

Photos from the Ball State chartering are available on the ATO Facebook Fanpage and the ATONHQ Flickr.
