Colony to Chapter: Kappa Mu

Alpha Tau Omega National Fraternity chartered its third chapter of 2010 at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Fla.

On Saturday, December 11, 2010, the 49 men of the colony were initiated into the newly established Kappa Mu chapter at the University of North Florida. Following the ceremony, brothers joined their guests at a reception to celebrate the momentous occasion.

"Building a brotherhood out of nothing and truly being able to call these men my brothers is an unbelievable feeling," said chapter president Steven Bigio. "It's true what they say, you get out what you put in."

"When I got the bid I was just super excited," said Christian Lockett. "Words cannot explain how excited I was…it's a national leadership development fraternity."

Lockett never intended to join a fraternity but the colony's leadership, campus involvement and focus on high scholarship are what changed his mind about ATO.

With accolades like these, it is no surprise that the colony chartered in only 10 months, which is a feat that the outgoing colony president Sebastian Marentes attributes to an undying sense of unity.

"Every single member is ATO," said Marentes. "When one member falls, everybody falls."
