On Saturday, February 18, 2012, the Alpha Tau Omega National Fraternity rechartered the Gamma Mu chapter at the University of Kansas.
“Obviously I’m happy, I’m excited, it’s great," said Colony President Zack McQuiston, Kansas ’12. "More than that I’m just proud of the guys we’ve brought in. They have done just as much work as anybody. They wanted it bad, they made that effort.”
National Board Member Bill Muir, Kansas State, had the honor of initiating the 40 men into Gamma Mu. National Ritual Counselor John Potts, Indiana ’73, was also in attendance along with ATO staff members including CEO Wynn Smiley, Director of Expansion Bobby Grangier and Leadership Consultant Jordan Fischette.
"To be able to attend...the initiation ceremony and then the chartering ceremony with your own kids is quite special,” said Tom Schroeder, Kansas ’75. “It warms the heart. It makes you feel proud as a parent.”
Tom is the father of the newly initiated Austin and Sam Schroeder. Father and sons both expressed how special the opportunity was to participate in the ceremony with each other.
Several ATOs from the
Kansas Delta Theta chapter made the trip to Lawrence, Kan. to celebrate and congratulate not only the Gamma Mu chapter but one of their former chapter brothers.
Jake Klenda, Kansas State, transferred his sophomore year to the University of Kansas. Upon transferring, he reached out to Delta Theta’s BOT Chairman Bill Muir, which is when he learned that ATO was recolonizing at the University of Kansas. Jake is now serving as the new Gamma Mu Chapter President.
